AMCARE Launches New Vascular Surgery Clinic: One-Stop Minimally Invasive Varicose Vein Care in Beijing
If you spend long hours standing or sitting as a teacher, nurse, salesperson or office worker, you may know the late-afternoon ache: heavy, swollen legs and twisted blue-green veins climbing the calf like earthworms. These are varicose veins — and they are more than a cosmetic issue.
Many patients struggle to find varicose-vein care that balances clinical outcomes, efficiency and value. To close that gap, AMCARE Beijing Hospital Surgery Center has launched a dedicated Vascular Surgery Clinic. Led by Department Director Jiang Bin and managed by attending vascular surgeon Dr. Wang Qian, the clinic offers a closed-loop service from outpatient consultation and pre-operative workup to minimally invasive surgery and long-term follow-up.
What Makes the Clinic Different
- Same-day consultation, ultrasound evaluation and treatment planning
- One-stop pre-operative blood tests, ECG and lower-limb venous ultrasound
- Day-surgery minimally invasive procedures with 1–2 hours of observation
- Long-term follow-up via a dedicated care group
Four Steps From Assessment to Recovery
Step 1 — Outpatient Consultation
Patients book Dr. Wang Qian’s vascular-surgery clinic online or on-site. A reminder text sent 24 hours before the visit confirms the address, insurance registration and preparation notes. During the visit, lower-limb vascular ultrasound is used to grade disease severity and design an individualized treatment plan.
Step 2 — Pre-operative Workup
If surgery is indicated, the clinic completes blood tests, ECG and lower-limb venous ultrasound in one visit. The goal is to avoid repeated trips and long waits.
Step 3 — Same-Day Minimally Invasive Surgery
Once the workup is approved, the procedure can be performed the same day. After 1–2 hours of post-operative observation, patients are discharged with physician approval.
Step 4 — Ongoing Follow-up
After discharge, patients enter a dedicated follow-up group where Dr. Wang Qian and a case manager answer questions, schedule staged reviews and track vascular recovery.
Clinic Highlights
Senior Specialist Direct Care
Dr. Wang Qian, a Peking University Health Science Center graduate and attending chief of Vascular Surgery at Peking University International Hospital, leads the clinic. He has extensive experience in peripheral vascular surgery and is skilled in radiofrequency ablation, CHIVA (vein-preserving) surgery and endovenous-CHIVA procedures.
Dr. Wang’s core philosophy is “the right treatment is the best treatment.” He assesses age, vein grading, daily work demands and physical tolerance before recommending a personalized plan and personally performs the surgery.
Personalized Minimally Invasive Options
The clinic provides several minimally invasive options selected after hemodynamic mapping:
- Radiofrequency ablation — heat energy is delivered to the vein wall, causing controlled contraction and closure. Used mainly for truncal reflux; can be performed segmentally in tortuous vessels without stripping normal vein tissue.
- CHIVA — a vein-preserving technique that ligates abnormal reflux points while keeping the main trunk and drainage pathways intact, allowing varicose branches to shrink naturally over time.
- CHIVA+ — a CHIVA-derived modification that combines radiofrequency closure of reflux points to avoid groin incision, reduce neovascular stimulation and speed recovery.
- Sclerotherapy — a sclerosant is injected directly into target veins to close them. It can be combined with surgery or used alone for smaller veins.
Professional Equipment
The clinic and operating rooms are equipped with high-definition Doppler ultrasound; the OR also has a dedicated DSA machine for complex, advanced varicose-vein cases. Multiple tiered sterile operating rooms support efficient day-surgery scheduling.
Transparent Costs and Insurance Support
After medical-insurance registration, part of the consultation and treatment costs may be reimbursed through the public insurance system, reducing out-of-pocket burden.
Warm, Closed-Loop Care
Before the visit, patients receive reminders about insurance registration, directions and pre-op preparation. During the visit, a coordinator guides them through examinations, admission and informed consent. After surgery, structured long-term follow-up and online leg-care advice reduce the need for frequent return visits.
Untreated varicose veins can lead to skin thinning, scaling, pigmentation, dermatitis and recurrent, hard-to-heal ulcers and infections. Stagnant blood also raises the risk of venous thrombosis, and a dislodged clot can cause life-threatening pulmonary embolism.
Instead of enduring the discomfort of “earthworm legs,” early assessment and timely treatment can help prevent complications and restore comfortable, healthy legs.
